Rise of the Planet of the Apes (quick review)

Boy I am pretty tired and I assure you there will be an extensive coverage of this movie. I just don’t want to delay it to a point when the movie has already faded away, so I decided to give a few quick impressions right after I have seen the movie.

If you don’t know what to watch this weekend, watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

This movie is everything summer movies can be. In a time when people are content with watching the same idiotic storylines all over again (Resident Evil) or are excepting idiotic stories just because they don’t care for entertainment (Transformers), Rise is different.

Like the main character Caesar (Andy Serkis, oh how I have a mancrush on him!) Rise is special among his kind. It not only tells a story, it tells a terrific story! It shows that when you aim high you can go high and now it is time to reward this!

Don’t forget, you vote with your wallet, if you have seen at least one of the following films then skip asking god to forgive your sins and go to the cinema for atonement:

Behold the list of shame:
Transformers 3, Cars 2, Green Lantern, Pirates 4,
The Hangover II, The Zookeeper…

Rise of the Planet of the Apes will make you laugh, cheer, maybe even cry. It is a tribute to the visual power of movies, to the art of storytelling by pictures. It takes a horrible movie (Conquest of the Planet of the Apes) and makes not only a good but a great movie out of it.

You think you know the ending, but I have to say there are very few movies when I was not sure if I should be happy or sad about the ending.

It is a fantastic showcase of CGI marvel. It is a demonstration that CGI can be more than shiny distractions from a shallow plot, it can be a tool to make us look at something that we have never seen before, to make us care about a digital creature more than about any human character I have followed this summer and out of all the movies this summer it is probably the only one yet that attempted to flip the truck.

Rise of the Apes is a fantastic movie with the only flaw being its horrible title.
